TPCS positively impacts the lives of women experiencing homelessness and abuse by developing innovative programs and offering resources that support independence, nurture intrapersonal growth, and prepare them for a more prosperous future. TPCS is committed to becoming a comprehensive solution that adequately addresses all of the challenges faced by women and families experiencing homelessness. TPCS has been providing shelter services to the homeless population for over two decades. Since its inception in 2002, it has provided emergency housing to over 4,500 displaced persons. The program staff has experience with working with the elderly, survivors of domestic violence, individuals with HIV, individuals diagnosed with mental illness, individuals with substance abuse, the LGBTQIA+ population, the re-entry population, and those that are under or unemployed. The target population for this initiative include homeless, imminently homeless, and chronically homeless Essex County families. TPCS has assisted individuals who were deemed homeless due to: the eviction or foreclosure for nonpayment of rent or mortgage, which may have been caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; lack of employment, under employment, loss of income; domestic violence; relocation; fire; disability; and change of family composition. Additionally, TPCS assists heads of households who may be employed or receive other income and are ineligible to receive TANF/EA due to their income.
